Happy Halloween

HARVEST THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABOR
The roots of Halloween are fascinating in that they come from the ancient Gaelic festival known as Samhain, translated as “summer's end, which is super cool, but, the even cooler fact, Halloween represents the switchover from the “lighter half” of the year, to the “darker half.” The approaching winter and it’s darkness as Goethe put it allows us “to hold it all” to enter the rich conversation with mother earth and go inward, to gestate the next planting.

As Halloween blows through this weekend, as the traditions rage, as we switch from light and move into the dark, take this moment to seize the opportunity to own what you need to own, to fearlessly step into the darker part of the year, and to grow into the grounded darkness of your truest self.

Mark Halloween as your harvest time, and absolutely reap what you have sown. If your harvest is sweet, treasure your efforts. If it is sour, treasure your efforts. Remembering the lesson. In the planting we learn, in the harvest we grow and no matter what, there is absolutely always a new season to begin again.

Create a New Story

MAKE IT MARVELOUS

As we transition from the lighter half of the year into the darker. As we fall in love, maybe for the first time, maybe for the millionth time. As weddings are celebrated and holidays are planned for, as the planet crunch we are all experiencing reaches a boiling point. It's Time.

Let any story that no longer serves the deeper peaceful-ness of your being fall away. Step into the next possibility of the greatest expression of your wholeness. Turn all the absolute shining brilliance of possibility into full on probability. Let go of your anxiousness, let go of your judgment, let go of your tired, heavy, boring, story. Stop the "yeah, but" and just say YES to that beautiful story of the fullest expression of joy.

Today. Now. Always.
May Love land in the deepest spaces of your truest self
and may the lightest touch of peace awaken all to your call.

There is Nothing to Prove

We all have our demons to work through. We all have the inner spinner that brings the same story around and around.

"On April 10, 1994, I wrote these words, which I keep on my desk: "Never again will I do anything for anyone that I do not feel directly from my heart. I will not attend a meeting, make a phone call, write a letter, sponsor or participate in any activity in which every fiber of my being does not resound yes. I will act with the intent to be true to myself."

When I accepted that I was a decent, kind and giving person — whether I said yes or no—I no longer had anything to prove. I was once afraid of people saying, "Who does she think she is?" Now I have the courage to stand and say, "This is who I am."

Accentuate the Positive

We make our world out of seeing what we want to see.

The parable of The Town Up Ahead illustrates my point.

A woman pulls up to the Gate Keeper and asks, "What are the people like in the next town up ahead?" The Gate Keeper said, "What were the people like in the town you just came from?"

"Awful people," the woman responded. "Rude, cold, hostile, abrupt, unfriendly."

"Well," said the Gate Keeper, "I'm sorry to say it, but you're going to find exactly the same sort of people in the next town up ahead."

A bit later, a Man pulls up, heading in the same direction as the first. "What are the people like in the next town up ahead?"

The Gate Keeper said, "What were the people like in the town you just came from?"

"Wonderful people," the man responded. "Friendly, warm, helpful, patient, kind."

"Well," said the Gate Keeper, "I'm happy to tell you that you're going to find exactly the same kind of people in the next town up ahead."

Der Bingle with Bette Midler...

Who would you consider to be the best leader using the following profile of three world leaders who lived in the same period of history?

Candidate A was associated with witchdoctors and often consulted astrologists. He had two mistresses. His wife was a Lesbian. He smoked a lot. He drank eight to ten martinis a day.

Candidate B never managed to hold down a job because of his arrogance. He slept the whole morning. He used opium at school, and was always considered a bad student. He drank a glass of brandy every morning.

Candidate C was decorated a hero. A vegetarian, he did not smoke. His discipline was exemplary. He occasionally drank a beer. He stayed with the same woman during his moments of glory and defeat.

A] Franklin Delano Roosevelt. B] Winston Churchill. C] Adolf Hitler. -- pulled from Paulo Coehelo's blog --

Food for thought as things begin to shift and you are making connections.

For me Johnny Mercer's lyrics to Harold Arlen's music for the song Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive is luscious and as always with these standards totally profound published in 1944 capturing the mood of a world looking toward the end of the second World War...

You've got to spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
Have faith or pandemonium's
Liable to walk upon the scene

In filtering life in love accentuating the positive everything shifts... giving you the gift of the truth which never changes.

"Miracles occur naturally as expressions of love."

The Amazing Magnificent and Phenomenal Issue

RISE INTO YOUR MAGNIFICENCE
TODAY. NOW. ALWAYS.
A revolution takes place in the heart. It begins by hearing "Enough!" Enough of the thinking that lead me astray. Enough of the actions that keep me locked in any pattern that is not serving me. Enough of the behavior that blocks me from accepting what is being offered in every moment. It begins by opening up and being willing to see a situation free from past vision transforming all of it into "I am enough to make any change I want to see."

Celebrate Your Life!

Harmony

I gladly give up my fear
I move into eternal joy

I stand in the truth
Balanced and at peace
Returned to awareness and full

I celebrate my life
I live in its ever radiating glow

I let my heart rise and flow
expanding with each breath

Let only Joy be my name
Let only Love remain

Restore my blissful self
to its rightful seat

Inviting my heart space
to unlock the treasure chest of recognition
Prospering in all ways and means
Revealing what is already mine

In service to my magnificence
Striking a tune the likes of which is only played by my soul
The humm of which cascades ever forward
Gently with force
Exploding
The crucible of my being
Now crucified and crushed
Free
In Harmony

Get Inspired!!

I am not saying any of this 'facing your self' is easy. I am saying, remember your inspiration. Remember you can reconnect into the space of your being.

See the moment of transformation in clarity. Understanding the idea that Love lives and breaths within. It is a level of deepness and openness, a meeting place of all hearts. Like Tina Turner played by Angela Bassett in What’s Love Got to Do With It when the Judge in her divorce case about to grant her freedom says “You understand. You will have nothing.”

Without hesitating. “I’ll have my name.”

Knowing the truth.

Tomorrow is Another Day

Margaret Mitchell's character Scarlett O'Hara had it down in Gone With The Wind...

"I won't think of this or that bothersome thought now. I'll think about it tomorrow." Generally when tomorrow came the thought either didn't occur at all or if it did was so attenuated by the delay it was not very troublesome.

Pull a page from the old south and free the moment from any tyranny born of your 'thinking.'

Opening the Space

Innovation is opening the space for the divine to enter. From this place of inspiration there is a place for someone to be different today then they were yesterday.

Doubt is always meaningless. Inhabit this moment fully and it will be perfect.

Give it Over

May I surrender over
Any thoughts
that are too small for me
Laying at rest in peace
To the highest form of joy
Getting my self
Out of the way
To be of service
To what wants to be born

Day Ten - Listen to your Intuition

Deep listening is the most direct route to connecting to your intuition, to those whispers of spirit. Many people say it is strengthened through prayer and meditation.

You know. You know when you listen to that voice, that feeling, and you know when you don't.

It is a practice.

Our personal note in the universal symphony is always broadcasting the most divinely inspired message guiding us along our journey freeing up our life to purpose when we tune in. Connecting to that space always reminds me of a John Denver song, that dude pumped out what he heard in the trees, off the breeze and from the mountains. His connection to nature and the deeper river of consciousness apparent in all his songs.

A reminder.

In listening we return home...

Country roads
take me home
to the place I belong...

CHECK OUT A SHORT SLIDE SHOW

On Sunday, October 3rd in the fabulous design store Cantoni's on La Brea in Los Angeles a large group of women were drawn together to celebrate our collective Amazing, Magnificent and Phenomenal-ness. The idea of getting a group of friends together over a Sunday tea had started in the summer after a particularly channeled message of love from the cosmos to get our nearest and dearest together to open a dialogue. The request was not left unanswered. Our theme had evolved into "from this garden love grows... enrich each moment." No one had an agenda, our intention was to open the space of limitless possibility and entertain those possibilities to create something miraculous. It started in the chaos that usually accompanies a larger event at a new venue now taking place outside of our home living room and with the added support of gracious sponsors. A late arrival here, a quirky forgetting of the cups there, and the normal scrambling to get the party started gave in to a warm wonderful day of sharing.

How I got to this moment bears some explanation because it really was a coming home. A coming home to the ground of my true being. Through all the tearful signings for my first book, The Bare Melcessities which dealt with getting through heartbreak after a divorce, through all the parties and joyful gatherings over the year of what would become my accelerated personal transformation I noticed something incredibly powerful, each person I met in whatever way I met them seemed to be remembering the truth and more importantly reminding me... There where so many people who shared their stories, let their emotions flow, often experiencing that loss of words, I learned to reach out, to just be in the space, eventually they found a way to let go of their defenses, allowing the surfacing emotions to release in the loving exchange that was offered, freeing their voice of some of what had strangled it.

Each encounter was a blessing. To be afforded that insight into the human heart, to be able to watch as people had light bulb moments, reconnecting and resurrecting parts of themselves that had long lay dormant, detoxing from whatever had weighed them down, was intense. I learned to surrender my defenses and open my heart. It was so powerful to know we are not alone. We are not alone in our feelings, we are not alone in our joy, we are all connected in that space of the heart.

When I wrote The Bare Melcessities it was only to give birth to some expression of my authentic self. I had no idea it would would lead me on a unique journey, divinely guided in the most perfect fashion, to a series of Sunday afternoon Teas surrounded by support for all the tears and laughter, expanding on friendships, connecting a diverse collection of women and igniting our ancestors with full nourishment in the form of community providing the energy necessary to grow.

On this Sunday at Cantoni's Design on La Brea in the heart of Los Angeles I read a tiny prayer from my collection of inspired affirmations of thought I am a Magnificent Woman that was gifted to me through my own tears. It was the answer to the question that I had walked and lived after leaving my relationship not knowing which end was up. It was the answer to Who Are You? And the most beautiful gift, because once I remembered who I was, I could remember who everyone is. Looking at that circle of women gathered in this form on this day we broke that prayer open on the wind. The energy of our intention and the magic of the moment combining, uplifting, empowering. The first woman who spoke after this shared prayer took my breath away. She ended her introduction with her own "I am" and after the most beautiful pregnant pause ... "Listening."

Each statement built on the last filling the hearts in the room binding together the group in spirit...

I am present
I am grateful
I am blessed
I am supported
I am content
I am ever evolving
I am Loved

It is an I AM to remember. A love that is ever connected, ever free and whole hearted.

Many thanks to all the truly Amazing, Magnificent and Phenomenal woman that I am lucky and honored to know. That I met along my journey and who joined this Sunday. It is with deep appreciation that I celebrate everyone who participated, expressed, and enjoyed the community of women that graced Cantoni's Design and it is with gratitude that I embrace all the connections that unfolded, all the relationships that have begun and all the spirit that has joined together in a feminine social force. It was uplifting and nourishing and much needed. We look forward to our next AMP event.

Melanie

The Road By The Ocean

A little taste

- Vanessa by the Sea -

a grace filled exploration of the events surrounding my therapy meetings with
MA. MFT. Psychotherapist Vanessa L. Bland
through a process of transformation, healing and forgiveness...

Symphonic sounds of waves crashing.

A HORIZON OF INSPIRING BLUES - -
Haunting. Pushing, pulsing, falling forward... the sun glowing over an endless stretch of sand and surf of the Pacific Ocean.
You know when you meet certain people
They are going to change your life as you know it to be.
In their presence worlds long forgotten leap forth
Awakening you to the truth of who you are.

Moving over the ocean, across the increasingly rich shades of blues, through the light ethereal mists casting the water’s surface. Pure visual poetry signifying an eternity of limitless possibility calling forth another space beyond what is seen.

We met every Thursday for three years.
The conversations were broad and ranging,
We talked of owning the self, sharing the expansiveness
Of the present and living in the limitless possibility of oneness.

The ocean strong and passionate and moody
framed the whole experience,
It’s temperament full and rich and altogether knowing.

The road by the ocean had much to teach me
And it led me right to her.

At the optimal moment of intrigue we break below the surface entering the depths of the deep radiant blue.

Day Eight - Chim Chim Cher-ee

Sometimes you don't need to know anything. You just get to say, hopefully with a cute dance number, Chim Chim Cher-ee and get lost in the sheer joy of the music and magic of the Academy Award winning best song written by the Sherman Bros for Walt Disney's Mary Poppins.

Nowhere is there a more 'appier crew
Than them wot sings, "Chim chim cher-ee, chim cher-oo!"
On the

Day Seven - Cherish the Moment

A dear comedy writing friend of mine shared a tiny detail of his process in handling the massive rejection and ongoing notes and the general 'not getting it' that takes place with his work. He made a decision long ago that when someone did say something nice he would take it at face value imagining the kind thought floating directly into his heart taking full residence, hugging and embracing the feeling of acceptance in its entirety.

To see him enact this personal sponging of a compliment is fantastic. It is all our work to cherish the nice things people have to say about us, to be grateful, and to accept the blessing without our self judgment deflecting it.

Day Six - Seek to be Still

Let everything reveal itself exactly as it is exercising your inner musculature of not doing -- and just be.

While you are practicing that certain inner stillness -- don't forget...

"If there's no one beside you when your soul embarks
I'll follow you into the dark."

Since there are always endless possibilities on interpreting the same words -- here's a darker but still fascinating cover of the same Death Cab for Cutie's I'll Follow You Into the Dark by Amanda Palmer at the Edinburgh fringe festival...

Day Five - Dare to be Remarkable

None of us does it alone, but it is our job to show up fully and claim our true authentic power...

"I feel grateful and humble... all thanks to many people."

Not sure what place other than Mel town would John Wayne and Eleanor Roosevelt go together but her words seem to ring into the same space...

"What basic objective I had... was to grasp every opportunity to live and experience life as deeply, as fully, and as widely as I possibly could. It seemed to me stupid to have the gift of life and not use it to the utmost of one's ability."

Day Five of a 40 day honoring cycle that started 10-1-10 for National Breast Cancer Awareness Month... it is a Mel movement of the heart, a cycle of gratitude in the light of remembrance.

May you feel connected, comforted and full of peace. Today. Now. Always.

In Grace and appreciation,

Melanie

Day Four - Monday with Dr. Angelo - Our Grandmothers

There is no greater joy than to know where you have come from and to recognize how far you've grown relaxing into the truth and the power of who you are...Dr. Angelo gives us an offering of roots in her work, in this case, with a simple statement I shall not be moved from her poem....

Our Grandmothers

She lay, skin down in the moist dirt,
the canebrake rustling
with the whispers of leaves, and
loud longing of hounds and
the ransack of hunters crackling the near
branches.

She muttered, lifting her head a nod toward
freedom,
I shall not, I shall not be moved.

She gathered her babies,
their tears slick as oil on black faces,
their young eyes canvassing mornings of madness.
Momma, is Master going to sell you
from us tomorrow?

Yes.
Unless you keep walking more
and talking less.
Yes.
Unless the keeper of our lives
releases me from all commandments.
Yes.
And your lives,
never mine to live,
will be executed upon the killing floor of
innocents.
Unless you match my heart and words,
saying with me,

I shall not be moved.

In Virginia tobacco fields,
leaning into the curve
of Steinway
pianos, along Arkansas roads,
in the red hills of Georgia,
into the palms of her chained hands, she
cried against calamity,
You have tried to destroy me
and though I perish daily,

I shall not be moved.

Her universe, often
summarized into one black body
falling finally from the tree to her feet,
made her cry each time into a new voice.
All my past hastens to defeat,
and strangers claim the glory of my love,
Iniquity has bound me to his bed.

yet, I must not be moved.

She heard the names,
swirling ribbons in the wind of history:
nigger, nigger bitch, heifer,
mammy, property, creature, ape, baboon,
whore, hot tail, thing, it.
She said, But my description cannot
fit your tongue, for
I have a certain way of being in this world,

and I shall not, I shall not be moved.

No angel stretched protecting wings
above the heads of her children,
fluttering and urging the winds of reason
into the confusions of their lives.
They sprouted like young weeds,
but she could not shield their growth
from the grinding blades of ignorance, nor
shape them into symbolic topiaries.
She sent them away,
underground, overland, in coaches and
shoeless.

When you learn, teach.
When you get, give.
As for me,

I shall not be moved.

She stood in mid ocean, seeking dry land.
She searched God's face.
Assured,
she placed her fire of service
on the altar, and though
clothed in the finery of faith,
when she appeared at the temple door,
no sign welcomed
Black Grandmother, Enter here.

Into the crashing sound,
into wickedness, she cried,
No one, no, nor no one million
ones dare deny me God, I go forth
alone, and stand as ten thousand.

The Divine upon my right
impels me to pull forever
at the latch on Freedom's gate.

The Holy Spirit upon my left leads my
feet without ceasing into the camp of the
righteous and into the tents of the free.

These momma faces, lemon-yellow, plum-
purple,
honey-brown, have grimaced and twisted
down a pyramid for years.
She is Sheba the Sojourner,
Harriet and Zora,
Mary Bethune and Angela,
Annie to Zenobia.

She stands
before the abortion clinic,
confounded by the lack of choices.
In the Welfare line,
reduced to the pity of handouts.
Ordained in the pulpit, shielded
by the mysteries.
In the operating room,
husbanding life.
In the choir loft,
holding God in her throat.
On lonely street corners,
hawking her body.
In the classroom, loving the
children to understanding.

Centered on the world's stage,
she sings to her loves and beloveds,
to her foes and detractors:
However I am perceived and deceived,
however my ignorance and conceits,
lay aside your fears that I will be undone,

for I shall not be moved.
Thanks to Dr. Angelo for putting words to the page, for sharing her rich inner voice and always standing.
