Celebrating our Loved Ones.... Dia De Los Santos y Fieles Difuntos Arco Iris Day of Saints and Faithful Dead | Love Ceremony

Today's ceremonial love activism is based on the service Dia De Los Santos y Fieles Difuntos Arco Iris Day of Saints and Faithful Dead at All Saints in Pasadena, CA abbreviated for sharing.

Dia de Los Muertos originated in Mexico, before the Spanish conquest. The exact date is unknown but it has been speculated that the idea originated with the Olmecs, possibly as long as 3000 years ago. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Traditions include building private altars honoring the deceased, using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts. Festive and colorful, it serves more as a celebration honoring our loved ones in the way we remembered them while they were alive. This is a time to bring photographs, garments, favorite foods, or other symbolic reminders of your loved one. El Dia de los Muertos also has another dimension, that of honoring our "collective dead," those people, often nameless and invisible, who have departed for reasons of social injustice -poverty, war violence. We must celebrate and honor the dead by loving the living, and loving the living means working for an end to war and poverty, fighting for healthcare reform and humane immigration reform, and working for full inclusion in our worlds.

The ceremony can be summed up simply.... We must heed the call to "love one another as Christ loves us."

The service I attended shared a beautiful reading from Message in Colors by Julie Sopetran a Poem found in Mexico City, Mixquic & Morelos- Through the Eyes of the Soul, Day of the Dead in Mexico

Lit candles. Faces. Memories and an entrance that's a rainbow: protection for the place of rest and meditation. Necklaces. Cempasuchitl, pre-Hispanic links, songs, paper medals, flames talking to the wind the diverse language departed. It is the prime time of the celebration or death's thread, threaded through time's needle. It is the decomposition of matter, transformed into art. It is the final curtain awaken from death in Ocotepec. Yes. An eternal dream of uncorrupt flowers and of gibberish. It is death's lament, fading away and it is also the respect made a tribute.

Who could have imagined so much beauty on a tomb? Mole. Glass of water. Incense. Salt. Prayers. Firecrackers. Fruits. Bread. Music. Corridos. Bolas. Romantic songs. History, praised. Creativity, expressed in its most raw form ... And it is the color purple, elegies in white, blue, pink. It is a blow from grace so heightened as artificial fire that reveals the soul's presence in the darkness. Something like the flowering of martyrdom in flames. An arrangement for the end or the posthumous splendor. In Morelos everything is possible - gloom battles with life and it's victor, it is once again for a little while, happiness, ludic tradition which overcomes reality. It was before these ornate grave-sites when I knew that in Ocotepec, as in my heart, those that have departed return every year to remind us of their love. And that onl) LOVE can save us.

In Spanish-

Una vela encendida. Una cara. Un recuerdo y un port6n arco iris: protecci6n del remanso. Collares.

May the power of love enable us to come to terms with things in life we cannot understand, that we may grow more tender, more courageous, more purposeful.

The time comes to celebrate those who have passed over as People offer the names of their departed loved ones. After each name is said aloud, the entire congregation responds, saying

"Presente!"

It goes something like this as each person calls out to their departed loved one.

"Jim"

Presente!

"Cecelia"

Presente!

"Barbara"

Presente!

"Lisa"

Presente!

And on and on until all are spoken into our hearts, here and the other;

Tears and love flow as all are remembered.

The ceremony ends with Mexican Hot Chocolate, which is somewhat spicy.

El pueblo ofrece los nombres de los seres queridos. Despues de que cada nombre es dicho en alta voz, la congregaci6n entera responde diciendo: Presente!

May you find comfort in remembering. May you find peace in celebrating. May your memories be sweet and may all our spirits be enriched and nourished by the ceremony.

Love, Mel

Why Life is Always a Testament of Hope. Mels Love Land #MiniMag Issue 10 | Love Everyone

I applaud his verve and I appreciate and celebrate him, he was born that way and was given the gifts of compassion and empathy and balance to go along with his idea full mind. Thoughts become form. The ends are inherent in the means. You find what you are looking for. Everyone is here for a reason. Each relationship, action, creates an equal and opposite re-action.

Transformation is underway. We are learning the ways of a Trump less world as he showcases all of the people, ideas, energies, systems that are old minded, not of the people and have no concept of joy and love being at the center of all our well being. Fear and loathing, hate and hypocrisy are being revealed for deeper holding, more love and we are experiencing a release into what is possible.

New spaces, where open hearted grace leads the way, where you don't know everything, where ideas are the soldiers of new joy systems.  Where we do not need more, so you have less. Wake into a new now where you can experience yourself, your life, your love, knowing you are powerful beyond measure.

It is a wonderful world, filled with wonderful people and when we meet our fears with an open heart. When we hold space beyond the tyranny and the bombasticness where each of us has the privilege of waking up to what they have been asleep to justice and kindness and love remain. What action are you called to do.

You can imagine someone who has succeeded in building, creating, one kind of business by projecting an image, whose personality has yielded results independent of being of service to anyone other than himself, whose every thought was catered to, who no one said "No" to saying -- 'Hey, the two party system has created alot of poop sandwiches. I could do a better job than those boobs.'  I' know how to build things. I could build something better than what is going on. I could save the day.'  A person so caught up in his own magnan-ignoramousness that he related sitting in his gold lilted tower yelling back at Fox News claimed as experience that He knows what to do. While it is understandable. It is unacceptable.

Right now. We are given a great opportunity.... To Experience the world without a Trump. Without a greed driven, money centered, patriarchal view of things through a lens of fear.

There is something in the air and all of us are being called to help fix what is broken. Yes, we have all contributed to the mess we see. Yes we can all do better than we are doing. There is no doubt a shift is occurring, people are waking up and we are in our connectedness arriving at the mountaintop for deepening our collective heart and stepping forward with a healed world.

We are witnessing the fall of fear.  Fear is up to be loved, understood and its oppressive energies released. Every story, every major newscast is showcasing it.

It is not the midnight of our discontent It is our eleventh hour of grace where we change course and establish a world where enough is enough. Where we don't need more so someone has less. Where we think about the whole in balance, without grabbing unnecessarily because we can. Where we see the illusions for what they are, where we stand together sharing our gifts and celebrating each other. Where we are kinder to each other than we were the day before, where love is brought to every situation and we allow a gentleness into the process of this new world we are entering together.

Where we create towers and walls and avoid transformation of our fear monsters we remain stuck in an old paradigm. Release all of it today. Gentle both, the old world and the new. Allow a grace to enter the conversation and allow actions to be loving and do not buy into someone's blustering. Let the winds of change bring you to the center of your own inner power and light and stand up, take action, be love in a new way, today and everyday.

Lots of Love for the actions that lie ahead....

STAY AWAKE FOR THE REVOLUTION Mels Love Land #MiniMag Issue 10 | Love Everyone

ALLOW YOUR HEART TO ACHE, ALLOW YOUR MIND TO STAY OPEN, AWAKEN TO THE DEEP RIVER OF CONNECTION TO FLOW.
DO NOT BE FOOLED BY ILLUSIONS OF FEAR AND HATE.

One of the great liabilities of life is that all too many people find themselves living amid a great period of social change, and yet they fail to develop the new attitudes, the new mental responses, that the new situation demands. They end up sleeping through a revolution" From the last Sunday Sermon delivered by Martin Luther King Jr. at the National Cathedral in Washington DC.

Hiding in the bosom of the cult of culture is not going to do it. No more living in the delusion of separation and being different. No more blinders. It is time for the truth.  Until all of us on this planet are peaceful, none of us can experience true happiness. It is a wholeness pattern, within each of us is light and dark and as we embrace and embody ourselves is the awakeness of now in love.

When Love and Fearlessness meet you bare witness to the revolution of your heart. The timeless intersection between these two allows as Socrates said for "the outer and inner man to be as one" striking your unique and perfect note. As these notes join together the stirrings of our collective heart become a radiating social force bringing each of our inner struggles and personal journeys into the larger unfolding experience, giving context and allowing nature to enact its most beautiful elegant outflow beyond the gravity of our day to day. Recognizing our commonalities. Recognizing our note in the song of the universe enabling the harmony of our practice of humanity, that connection we yearn for to truly resonate with each other.

In this space of human destiny where our perfect tone vibrates in harmony with our being the entire universe rejoices animating the universal heavenly symphony, this sound of our celestial DNA to move as Wordsworth said 'in one society' in service to our deepest most authentic self.

The childish Glee with which people are acting out is troubling. Don't confuse entertainment with truth. Don't confuse your POV with reality. Don't think becasue you are angry you can act hurtfully, judging everyone. This is taking place across the spectrum, across the world, right, left, up down, kids, adults, preachers, pope's, pundits, pacificsts, athiests, agoraphobs, and religio-phobes. We need to shift geers. We need to stop it. Right now. and learn to take loving action.

REMAIN AWAKE. REMAIN AWARE. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR VISION TO BE OBSCURED. LET LOVE LEAD THE WAY.  FOLLOW THE FEELS AND RYTHYM OF THE HEART.

One Good Story. Officer Nichols. LAPD. All Systems Love.

When I asked Officer Nichols if the badges in the memory box on the wall at the Los Angeles Police Department headquarters represented Officers killed in the line of duty he said
"Yes."
As tears formed in my eyes he said
"You see that traffic light post over there?"
I nodded.
"Around the City when you see a name on a lightpost that is where that Officer was killed."
I read the names on the badges in the memory box, seeing diversity, the lives, the people who died protecting our streets... Sanchez, Johnson, Cuesta, Brown. Navidad, Rios... I shared with Officer Nicols how grateful we are for his and their service. He went on to say
"They (the media) cover the bad news not the great stuff that takes place in our community and with the people we serve. Just yesterday we volunteered with Operation School Bell to put socks and shoes on young kids. We have conversation, we stay open, we stand in our communities everyday to protect and serve that community."

In the background the musicians played "I think to myself, it's a wonderful world. I think to myself, it's a wonderful world."

The world is not a perfect place.  There is good and there is evil.  When you turn on the light darkness disappears. When your only focus is on a pinpoint of fear you lose site of the larger canvass of love and kindness tacking place in the world. Thanks to the women who march, the world we are living in, the smiles we get to share, the love we extend and the kindness we offer each other in the light of forces we can't control.  Mels Love Land #MiniMag Issue 10 | Love Everyone

Mels Love Land #MiniMag Issue 9 Soul Celebration!

When my Dad passed away last year he had someone from the other side of the rainbow bridge sing me a song in my dreams, it kept repeating until I got up and wrote it down.  The words ‘every mountain needs a rainbow’ from the other side let me know he arrived safely and all was well.  It was comforting and I was grateful for this reminder that the veil between this world and the other is thin and while his physical body was gone, he had returned home with love.

His birthday is coming up on 11/1, which also happens to be, All Souls Day or the Day of the Dead the day of the year where we are in closest connection to the other side. On All Souls' Day, there is a Book of the Dead, in which attendees of services have an opportunity to write the names of relatives to be remembered and honored.  It is a powerful expression with the personal tributes to friends and family members that have transitioned to the other side. This deep and beautiful experience of our memories and our heart is humbling.

Mels LoveLand #MiniMag Issue 9 | Soul Celebration is the offering for this time of year, when the soul rejoices in memories, the heart leaps into the darkening months and life gets a full celebration.

Every mountain needs a rainbow, something you and I can see,
Every mountain needs a rainbow, from sea to shining sea,

Every mountain needs a rainbow, something you and I can see
Every mountain needs a rainbow, that leads to harmony

It isn't always easy
It isn’t often clear
This way of things
In what our hearts
hold dear

Every mountain needs a rainbow, something you and I can see
Every mountain needs a rainbow, that leads to you and me

Check out the issue here and thank you for your kindness, love, understanding and compassion. I am honored to be in community with your.

May Blessings Abound. May Forgiveness Flow and May all Know Peace. Return to Yom Kippur

The power of our collective heart means when one of us celebrates we all celebrate, when one of us forgives we all benefit from that forgiveness.  Each life touches so many others because we are all connected. Every act of love resonates and expands naturally. Every act of forgiveness burns karma and connects to the deep river of our humanity shifting the world in wonderfully positive ways.

Since I'm unofficially a quarter Jewish, I feel blessed to be able to particip
ate with my Jewish friends and family in many of their ceremonies.

Yom Kippur is a beautiful time to cleanse the energy of the past, and rest in the oneness of spirit and community alongside the rest of our human tribe. I love this opportunity to clear that which we no longer have to carry.

These words in Hebrew with English Translation jump from the process and strike to the core of why it is a power day and celebration in the Book of Life.

V'ahavta I'rayakha ~ and you shall have love in your heart,
V'ahavta kamokha ~ for yourself and your friends,
V'ahavta ani hashem ~ to create a world of hope and peace,

Today I think of all my friends, past and present, I think of my family, I think about the many people I have met as I travel through the world, I think about a lot of things. But mostly, I think about how grateful I am, grateful to be able to experience grace and humor and love, everyday.

Each of us finds our own way on the path of the peaceful spiritual warrior, "capable of wrestling with Life without being defeated by living."

This past year I have been the beneficiary of a huge mitzvot. Beging able to experience giving and receiving in equal measures, being able to share myself and all the love with all of you.   For all of this I am grateful.

Tomorrow is a new day, but for this moment, I honor and celebrate the truth... I ask for forgiveness for all the transgressions, known and unknown.  I atone for all interactions that were not filled with love and I stand in peace and joy and love with all that is.

We live in a world full of love, and spirit and vitality and most importantly eternal joy.

I look forward to seeing what lays ahead.

Today's invocation of spirit from the Machzor for Yom Kippur

this day of At-one-ment,
for forgiving,
for clearing,
for at-one-ing.)

May the grace of God
ascend within us, open our ears,
open our hearts and minds,
to the flame of our ancestors,
to the flame of the Messiah,
to our people Israel,
to all humankind.

We open to the cleansing energy within us
the Power of purification present in every age:
Let it clear out the debris;
let it wash away our mistakes and our suffering,
so we may truly see, as it teaches,
"I, only I, Self of your self,
erase your lack of faith in your Self,
and I do this to make known
my reality through you.
Your mistakes I will not recall.
Indeed, I have swept away your mistakes

     like clouds blown away,
     like mist that vanishes.
Turn to me-- I have already freed you!"
     For you have been promised:
"On this day a-mending will be made for you,
to cleanse you from all your mistakes.
Before the Infinite you shall be clear."

Our Power and Power of our parents,
Let us make our lives holy
through deeds of justice, love and joy.
Let us make our part in the Torah.
Let us enjoy God's world
and rejoice in freedom.

May our prayers
open our eyes and expand our vision,
revealing your divine plan
whose path leads us all to the holy of holies.
May our heartfelt prayers be a conduit
swiftly carrying us to the time
when all Israel, all peoples, serve the divine plan.

May our eyes witness the return of Your Presence
to our lives, to Zion, and to the whole world.
Blessed are You, Source of blessings
awakening the world to your Presence
through our deeds of goodness.

We will continue to offer thanks
to the eternal One,
steadfast Source of strength
throughout all generations,
for our lives which rest in Your embrace,
for our souls which are in Your care,
for the miracles and wonders
which greet us day after day,

Allow me the grace to invite total forgiveness into my heart to wash away all that no longer serves.
Allow me to embrace life in love with all that is.

Allow me your light to radiate through me in a feast of forgiveness.

Allow me to be me.

Love, Mel

Mels Love Land #MiniMag Issue 8 | Freedom #Love

No matter what divides us... We must remain united in the highest order of freedom in loving action doing our best. With respect for our differences and find our common humanity. Let’s make doing our best a practice of humanity as a way of life. Not because it's easy. But because it's the right thing to do.

We owe it to those who come after us not to fall asleep, not to forget who we are, and to take advantage of the deeper conversation. We owe it to ourselves to stand united rising above the rhetoric and feelings that seek to block, shift, divide you from our inner power. Experience the freedom of love today, over the course of the next bunch of days we will spend one day with each piece of loving writing in more depth.
